On Thursday, 3 soldiers were reportedly killed and several others missing following an attack by Boko Haram terrorist group on a military base in Kareto, a town located 150 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
“We lost three soldiers in the fight and several others are still missing,” an undisclosed military officer in Maiduguri reportedly told AFP.
The terrorists were however repelled with aerial support.
“The terrorists were smoked out of the base by a fighter jet which deployed to the scene,” the officer added.
A civilian JTF also revealed that soldiers withdrew to a town called Gubio, 60kilometres away, while residents of the town fled into the Republic of Niger.
“The bodies of three soldiers were recovered after the attack,” the civilian fighter stated.
“More troops have arrived in Kareto but most residents have not returned,” he added.
