Mr. Matthew Benabafa Seiyefa, the most senior officer at the Department of State Services (DSS), has been appointed to take over the DSS following the sack of Mr. Lawal Daura.
Daura’s sack came following the siege at the National Assembly by the operatives of the DSS who said that they don’t know why they were order to the NASS complex, adding that they were only complying with order from above.
Before his appointment as DG of DSS, Seiyefa who is an indigene of Bayelsa State, was the Director of Institute of Security Studies (ISS).
The new DG who has about 34 years experience with the department was inaugurated following a handing over by the Director of Administration and Logistics at a ceremony conducted at the Yellow House Headquarter of the DSS without the presence of Daura.
After his sack, Daura was reportedly arrested by the police and detained in an unknown location.
According to report (as seen on Premium Times), Mr. Daura had denied 5 senior officers their official quarters in Abuja and instead allocated the facilities to his relations who are not even official of the DSS.
Many officials at the secret agency reportedly expressed happiness over his removal after 3 years leadership marked by high-handedness and autocracy.
