It is now obviously clear that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would not be contesting the governorship and National Assembly positions in Rivers and Zamfara State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday released the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidate that would participate in the forthcoming general elections.
The governorship and National Assembly candidates of the ruling APC in the two states were not on the list.
This was because the ruling party failed to conduct primaries for the positions, adding that the October 7, 2018 deadline had already lapsed.
Also, the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) were not on the list too.
The electoral body noted that it was due to court order which sacked Mr. Donald Duke as the SDP presidential candidate.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, was sacked as the SDP presidential candidate by a Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja because he (Duke) is from the same region with the party’s National Chairman. His name was replaced with Prof. Jerry Gana who came second in the party’s primary election.
