The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in its statement over the arraignment of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sympathizing with corruption.
The ruling party in its first statement since the development noted that the swift reaction by the strongest opposition exposes it as one with natural inclination to rise up in defence of corruption.
The same APC that ignored the allegations and obvious evidence of corruption against the Governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje, is now accusing the PDP for not supporting the fighting against corruption in public offices.
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the ruling party expected the PDP to call for impartial investigations when corruption cases are leveled against public officers.
It further noted that spinning falsehoods and conspiracies had always remained the preferred option for PDP.
APC further dismissed the allegation that the accusation and the swift arraignment of Chief Justice Onnoghen was a plot to rig the election, saying that Nigerians must ignore such allegations as the ruling party is committed to ensuring a free, fair and credible election.
“The PDP’s baseless conspiracy theory on APC’s participation in the 2019 general elections should hereby be disregarded. We remain solidly committed to ensuring that the forthcoming elections go on record as one of the freest, most credible and peaceful elections in the country,” APC said through its spokesman.
Although instances of corruption involving APC members shows otherwise, the APC noted that the President Buhari administration remains uncompromising in its determination to completely rid Nigeria of corruption.
The PDP had in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the APC-led Federal Government wants to destabilize the Judicial Arm of Government so as to rig the 2019 generation elections.
“This is particularly following allegations that the APC seeks a new CJN that will aid its rigging schemes as well as execute the plot to use the court to detain and put opposition members and outspoken members of Civil Society Organisations out of circulation during the general elections,” the PDP said.
