Appeal Court dismisses PDP’s Eleka appeal, affirms APC’s Fayemi victory at the Ekiti Governorship election

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday affirmed the victory of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State at the Ekiti governorship election held in July of 2018.
The three-man panel led by Justice Stephen Adah in a unanimous judgment dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Prof. Olusola Eleka, its governorship candidate in the election.
Justice Adah alongside the two other judges, Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson and Justice Emmanuel Agim, upheld the ruling of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had on 28 July, 2018, upheld the victory of Dr. Fayemi at the poll.
Fayemi who was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election got 197,459 votes to defeat the PDP candidate who got 178,121 votes.
The petitioner had approached the court, alleging that the election was marred by a lot of wrongs which includes non-compliance with Electoral Act, but the judges described Eleka’s appeal as unmeritorious.
