Atiku’s lawyers says it is unnecessary to appeal the unfavourable portions of Justice Aboki-led tribunal ruling at this stage

President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

Mr. Chris Uche (SAN), a senior member of the legal team representing the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has said that it is unnecessary to appeal against the unfavourable portions of the Wednesday ruling by the tribunal.

The three-man panel led by Justice Abdul Aboki had granted Atiku access to inspect the materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the February 23 poll. The panel however rejected some portion of the request which requested access to card reader data, scanning and photocopy of electoral documents.

“Filing an appeal against those portions of the ruling is totally unnecessary.

“This is because we at liberty to make the requests again at the pre-hearing stage after we must have filed our petition,” Uche said.

Mr. Atiku had vehemently rejected the outcome of the presidential election which produced President Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner, as declared by INEC.
