Aviation Minister says INEC lied about bad weather being the cause for election postponement

Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika

Senator Hadi Sirika, the Minister of State for Aviation, in a statement on Sunday alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lied about claims that bad weather contributed to the reason why the Presidential and National Assembly election was postponed.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman, had in a statement following the postponement of the election blamed bad weather for the reason why electoral materials were not delivered promptly.

The Aviation Minister however in a statement stated that INEC should have stated something else instead of using the weather as an excuse, adding that all airports were open 24 hours during the preparation.

“INEC should say something else as weather was good for flight operations on the eve of elections, similarly all airports were directed to open 24 hours during the election period,” the Aviation Minister tweeted on Sunday.
