President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn that leaders who deny workers their benefits and siphon the funds into their personal accounts will not escape jail.
“I honestly don’t know how people sleep when workers have not been paid. The workers have to pay rent, buy food, send their children to school and they have health care to take care of,” Buhari said when he received a delegation led by Senator George Akume from Benue State.
He further noted that the Federal Government bailouts to states were basically to alleviate the sufferings of the people, saying that misappropriation of the fund is unjust and unfair to workers.
“I assure you that my main interest is all Nigerians in all parts of the country.
“Therefore, if anybody who tries to create any impression that I prefer any group across ethnicity or religion let him dare me by being caught red-handed stealing public funds. I will deal with him.”
President Buhari’s statement however appears controversial considering the fact that he is yet to make any statement regarding the recent video clips showing Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State receiving bribes in dollars.
On the utilization of bailout funds, Buhari noted that the Federal Executive Council is aware of the plight of workers across the country and states are being monitored on how they use the bailout and Paris Club funds.
