Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has been ordered by Justice Abdulaziz Anka of the Federal High Court in Lagos to temporary forfeit the sum of N75million found in his account.
The money was allegedly discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in his account with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).
The anti-graft agency had filed a case requesting for the freezing of Ozekhome’s account for 120days, noting that the money in his account which was deposited on 15th December, 2016 was suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Mr. Idris Mohammed, EFCC lawyer, told the court that the application was brought before the court pursuant to section 29 of EFCC Act.
The EFCC also submitted exhibits marked 01, 02 and 03 to the court.
Consequently, Justice Anka ordered that the said Ozekhome’s account be frozen for 120days with the option of appeal by any party that is not satisfied with his ruling.
