Mr. Nnochirionye Afunanya, the spokesman for the Department of State Services (DSS), on Tuesday confirmed that Mr. Sani Baba-Inna, the Aide De Camp (ADC) to the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs. Aisha, is under DSS custody for allegedly defrauding the president’s wife of N2.5billion.
Mrs. Aisha had earlier reportedly asked the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to arrest him and compel him to refund back her money.
“His case was handed over by the police and investigation is ongoing,” DSS spokesman Afunanya, said.
Aisha had accused him of receiving huge donations from politicians and business people on her behalf and refused to hand the money over to her.
But after investigation by the police, no incriminating evidence was found against him or to show that he received such huge sum of money. His residence was allegedly searched, and his bank account was checked, but nothing was found.
The police further asked those who were said to have donated the money, but they however reportedly denied making such donations.
President Buhari’s wife has however noted that she had no hand in the arrest and detention of her ADC.
According to Mrs. Aisha in a statement issued on her behalf by her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, the wife of the president said that Baba-Inna was arrested by the police for using his position as her ADC to dupe people.
She expressed shock that Baba-Inna who had been her ADC since 2016 had defrauded unsuspecting associates and officials.
Mrs. Aisha noted that she has never sent any of her aide to receive any favour on her behalf or on behalf of her children.
“The attention of wife of the President, Dr Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has been drawn to some media publications and releases purporting illegal detention of her Aide De Camp over allegations of fraud.
“The story as it pertains to her ADC, Chief Superintendent of Police Sani Baban-Inna, has it that he has been detained on the orders of Her Excellency for dropping her name and defrauding unsuspecting officials and associates. She wishes to use this opportunity to refute such an allegation and to state that she has no hand in his arrest and detention.
“CSP Sani Baban-Inna has been her ADC since 2016 and has been associated with her ever since. To the utter dismay of Her Excellency, he has used the opportunity to defraud unsuspecting associates and officials as initial investigations have shown.
“The Nigeria Police Force, his employers, arrested him to investigate the allegations levelled against him, this, being within their jurisdiction.
“She, therefore, wishes to use this opportunity to inform the general public that she has never sent any of her staff to collect any favours on her behalf or on behalf of her children and will never do so.
“She is, therefore, imploring anyone that has been defrauded by Mr Baban-Inna to get across to him to retrieve whatever he took from them. Mrs Buhari wishes to reiterate that she will not condone fraudulent behaviour by any of her staff.”
