The wife of the Ekiti State governor, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose, is to be invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to explain her role in the alleged N100m she received through their company’s account.
Earlier report stated that part of the funds received by the former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, was transferred to Fayose. Part of this fund was traced to have been deposited into the account of a company Spotless Investment Limited which Fayose and his wife are signatory to.
According to the EFCC the money was paid into the Zenith Bank account of their company on 17th June, 2014 with bank teller number 0540997 by Abiodun Agbele, an associate of Governor Fayose.
“N100m was paid into the Spotless Investment Limited account with number 1010170969 at Zenith Bank. The two signatories are Fayose, with Bank Verification Number 22338867502, and his wife, Helen Olayemi, with BVN 22298990256.” The EFCC source told Punch.
As a sitting governor, Fayose cannot be prosecuted or arrested because he enjoys immunity. “His wife, however, has no immunity.”
However, in a statement yesterday, Governor Ayodele Fayose stated that contrary to EFCC’s report, he has no financial link with Obanikoro and that his campaign was not funded by the arms deal money. He noted that Zenith Bank and other individuals sponsored his campaign.
