A former Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Alani Akinrinade (rtd), in his new book titled “My Dialogue With Nigeria” expressed regret over his participation in the Nigerian Civil War (Biafra War).
Chief Femi Olopade disclosed this at the presentation of the book as the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos on Thursday.
According to Olopade, with what has been happening in Nigeria over the years, Akinrinade is now advocating for the restructuring of Nigeria to save it from destruction.
Olopade added that if the former general who he described as frank, detribalized, kind-hearted and stubbornly principled is advocating for the restructuring of this country, then he must be listened to because something is wrong with Nigeria.
Also, Mr. Ray Ekpu, the Director of Mayfive Media, said that as a young man, General Akinrinade fought to keep Nigeria as one. Hence, he cannot now as an old man want to divide the country which is why his call for restructuring must be taken seriously.
Mr. Ekpu urged President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the calls by Akinrinade by restricting the country now because it is time to do so and it will be good for everyone.
