On Sunday, Ayodele Fayose, the Governor of Ekiti State, was seen leading a team of fire fighters to quench a fire at the Strive Energy Petrol Station, Ijigbo roundabout in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Fayose allegedly mobilized the fire fighter team just as soon as he received information of the fire outbreak. He mounted the fire fighter tank and coordinated the rescue exercise himself.
Although no life was lost, the fire destroyed properties worth millions of naira, as the fire extended from the fuel station to nearby Mugbagba areas of the town.
After the incident, as a way of making sure no future occurrence of such again, the governor banned all petrol stations operating close to residential areas from dispensing petrol except diesel and kerosene only.
