House of Representative member allegedly sent to prison for certificate forgery

Mr. Nse Ekpenyong, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Oron Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, has been remanded in Uyo Prisons.

The rep member who could not meet his bail conditions was earlier charged to court on Thursday in Uyo for allegedly forging a National Diploma Certificate of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State.

He was arraigned before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Uyo, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was granted a bail in the sum of N10million and a surety in like sum, but the surety must among other things deposit with the court the sum of N5million which would be forfeited if Mr. Ekpenyong fails to appear in court twice while his case is ongoing.

According to Ahmedu Arogha, the EFCC lawyer, he said that Ekpenyong could not meet the bail conditions and was consequently sent to prison.
