The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the police investigation report in the Rivers Re-run Election held last December alleging that Governor Nyesom Wike bribed the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
We published a report two days ago concerning the N111million the police panel led by Mr. Damian Okoro, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, allegedly recovered from about 23 officials Wike reportedly bribed.
According to the Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the submission of Jerry Gana-led PDP Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs Committee, he noted that there was no evidence proving that the money was from Governor Wike.
“The police brought out money saying it was confiscated from INEC officers.
“We too could have brought some monies here and also said they were confiscated from INEC officers.
“What of the money with the police and other security agencies? Have they not compromised or is the money not recoverable?’’ Mr. Makarfi asked.
Mr. Makarfi cautioned against manipulating government institutions to do the government biding, noting that “it is either we do the right thing or the right thing will be done to us”.
Dayo Adeyeye, the Secretary of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, cautioned the police to stop harassing Wike and advised the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to be conscious of his actions on the matter.
“What is the evidence that the monies recovered from INEC officers were from the PDP or the governor? Were the monies marked?
“So, APC did not bribe INEC officers?’’ he asked.
