A combat helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force was lost on Wednesday around 7:45pm while providing close air support to troops of the 145 Battalion at Damasak in Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
It is not yet known whether the combat aircraft had crashed while fighting the Boko Haram insurgents.
The Nigerian Air Force in a statement on Wednesday around 10:30pm confirmed the incident, adding that details of the cause were still scanty.
“A Nigerian Air Force helicopter was lost in combat while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion at Damasak in Northern Borno State. The mission was part of the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East,” NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said.
“The incident occurred about 7:45 pm on January 2. Details of the cause of the crash are still scanty. As soon as the details of the crash are known, they will be made available to the public,” he added.
