Sheik Yusuf Amzat-Salam, a 35 year old Muslim cleric, his wife and their four children were on Tuesday killed by suspected herdsmen in Atiba in Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State.
The children were aged 11, twin boys who were 8 and the youngest aged 2.
This family of six (6) were butchered with machetes the same day and no one survived.
Their dead body were discovered when a school bus came to pick up the children for school.
Mr. Yusuf Oludaisi, a family friend described the incident as wicked.
“He was someone whom we grew up together. I have known him for 30 years to be humble and kind to everyone who came across his path.
“It’s really sad because this was someone you will never see quarrelling or being disrespectful”, he said
Alfa Ishaaq Amzat-Salam, the younger brother to the late Muslim cleric, said he would let God takeover and judge the matter.
“I leave those who perpetrated such evil into God’s hands for He alone will judge them. The deed cannot be undone.
“I will always remember my brother forever for his loving kindness as he was a shining light to us all”, said Ishaaq.
Senator Gbenga Kaka, who once represented Ogun East, was a their burial. He described the incident as very sad.
“I am a close friend to the father of the victim and when I heard what happened, I was in bitter shock.
“It is unimaginable what these people did and it brings much sadness to my heart. I don’t even have the words to describe it”, Senator Kaka said.
Bimbola Oyeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Ogun, confirmed the incident.
“We are already doing all to investigate and apprehend the culprit”, he said.
