1.The Government of Lagos State has warned residents against buying poisonous ponmo (cow skin) circulating in some markets particularly in the Ojo and Iba Local Government Areas of the state.
Adeola Salako, the Director of Public Affairs at the State Ministry of Health, in the warning statement said that 3 persons linked to the poisonous ponmo had been arrested.
Following the arrests, large quantity of ponmo was seized and sent to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for test.
“The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, who disclosed this in his office today (Sunday) while reviewing report of preliminary investigation and enforcement carried out on the sale of the toxic ponmo in the areas, stated that the three persons involved had been charged to court, while samples of the confiscated ponmo had been sent to the NAFDAC laboratory for suitability test analysis for human consumption,” he said. 2. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently denied report that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was plotting to dump the APC.
There were insinuations last week in the media (not Naija Buzz) that the APC might deny Mr. Bello re-election ticket for the Kogi State Governorship Election scheduled for 2 November, 2019. Consequently, he allegedly vowed to join the Accord Party.
Lanre Issa-Onilu, the spokesman of the APC, however dismissed the report, describing it as balderdash. (Read More on Naija Buzz)
3. Oyinkansola Saraki, the sister of Senate President Bukola Saraki, has appealed to the Kwara State Governor-elect, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, to immortalize her father, Dr. Olusola Saraki.
Dr. Saraki during his time was a political icon in the state.
His influence led to the emergence of Dr. Bukola Saraki as aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor of Kwara State, and as a Senator. He eventually went on to become a Senate President.
“Congratulations, governor-elect, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak. I am appealing to you sir to immortalise my father, Dr Olusola Saraki, the man believed to be the strong pillar of Kwara State politics during his lifetime,” she said.
4.The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari led government of siphoning N14trillion.
According to the PDP Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were desperate to remain in power in order to prevent investigations into his government.
“The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Presidency and the APC are desperate to remain in power at all costs, so as to continue to exploit Nigerians, protect the APC corrupt leaders, cover their incompetence and conceal the humongous sleazes in their administration,” Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, said in a recent statement in Abuja.
The PDP alleged that N9trillion was stolen from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources which was revealed in the leaked Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s memo.
5. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly filed fresh charges against Senator Bala Mohammed, a former Minister who won the Bauchi State Governorship Poll under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election.
Report has it that the 6 count charges against him are on his alleged failure to declare his assets and false declaration.
The former Federal Capital Territory Minister will be arraigned at the Federal High Court in Maitama Abuja.
