Good Morning Nigeria! Here are a few of what you need to know this Thursday morning 🙂. Enjoy!
1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has threatened to arrest Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, the Chairman of Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, in order to face fraud charges in court. The threat was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of the anti-graft commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren. The statement came shortly after Justice Olusola Williams of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja struck out the case of fraud against Mr. Chukwuma. The court had to struck out the case because the anti-graft agency failed to produce the accused in court to face trial. Consequently why EFCC is currently trying to arrest him and force him to court.
2. On Wednesday, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha, while speaking with State House Correspondents after a meeting between the APC Governors and President Muhammadu Buhari, said that the party was not jittery over the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to Okorocha, with the primaries over, the APC would soon embark on reconciliation to appease those who were aggrieved as a result of the nationwide exercise. “We can’t be jittery. History is there to speak, history is very important. As I said, we are not going to get involved in this verbal war with anybody; we will be talking about issues,” he said when asked if the APC was jittery over Atiku’s emergence.
3. Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, on Tuesday in Osogbo accused Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the PDP in the last Osun Governorship Election, of backing the Director General of the Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Chief Lere Oyewumi, to violate the peace deal brokered to resolve the crisis between them before the Osun State Election. “To resolve the crisis arising from the PDP primary, the leadership of the party resolved that Ogunbiyi’s camp should produce a candidate who would deputise Adeleke; they conceded Osun West Senatorial ticket of the party to Ogunbiyi himself and also rationalised other issues for peace to reign. But the agreement did not see the light of the day. It was breached. Adeleke and his campaign organisation led by Dr Lere Oyewumi picked Hon. Albert Adeogun, an indigene of Ife as the deputy governorship candidate and frustrated the move by the party to substitute Adeogun’s name in line with the said accord. Ogunbiyi and his camp were sidelined thereafter,” Ogunbiyi alleged through his media aide, Mr. Ismail Afolabi.
4. The National Leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleges that the Presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are gathering lies against Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate. According to the opposition party, the ruling party had hired some unnamed persons to assassinate Atiku’s character. “Since the successful conduct of our Presidential primary and the popular emergence of Atiku Abubakar, the Buhari Presidency and the APC have become intimidated, one into panic mode and ignobly resorted to trading on rumour and spurious allegations, having failed in their evil machination to scuttle our Presidential primary ab initio. The PDP is aware of how the intimidated Buhari Presidency has unleashed its officials, spin doctors and hack writers with billions of naira, siphoned from our national treasury, to fabricate lies, spurious allegations and smear campaign against our presidential candidate,” Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP spokesman, said.
