On Wednesday in Kaduna State, Comrade Ayuba Waba, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led a peaceful protest against the sack of over 21,000 primary school teachers in the state.

Teachers from 23 local government areas of the state attended the protest, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Health workers union that also participated in solidarity.

The protesters carrying placards with messages such as “El-rufaiology, A Total Disaster To Kaduna State”, “Kick Against Autocracy”, “El-rufai Must Go!!!”, marched from the Labour House to the gate of the State House of Assembly where they delivered their message.

While addressing the protesters, Mr. Waba said that the NLC is not aware of the sack of 22,000 teachers and 10,000 local government workers by Governor El-Rufai in Kaduna State.

Although no lawmaker from the State House of Assembly was around to address the crowd, the NLC president noted that “whether they are here or not, we have delivered our message because this is our house.”

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, said that it will proceed on an indefinite strike from November 23 in protest against the sack of the 21,780 teachers.
