The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said that the Edo State Government is responsible for not allowing them hold their campaign rally in the state.
On Wednesday, the PDP postponed the campaign for the Edo State governorship election for the second time because the venue they had booked and received approval to use was later canceled.
The party said they applied for the use of the school field in Uselu and got approval. However the authorities of the school eventually told them (PDP) that they had been directed to cancel the approval given for the usage of the field.
According to the PDP Edo State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, he said;
“The Egor LGA rally that was to hold at Olua Primary School on Wednesday, July 27, will now hold at Timber shed along Uselu-Lagos Road. (Governor Adams) Oshiomhole told them not to allow the PDP to use the primary school which is a public property,”
But the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Kassim Afegbua, in his statement said that he is not aware that the PDP have been denied the use of public properties for their campaign. He said that nobody will stop the PDP if they secure the use of public properties following due process.
“There are procedures for securing public places for events. If they fulfil the requirements, nobody will stop them. He said
“We are, however, conscious of campaigns when schools are in session. If the schools were not renovated, will they go there to campaign?” He asked.
