Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected ritualist, Ajiboye Emmanuel, 42, who had in his possession the corpse of a baby reportedly meant for rituals.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Emmanuel wrapped the dead body in a polythene bag.
He was arrested following an alert at the Isara division of the state command when people at the motor park where he boarded a vehicle on December 22 suspected the odour emanating from the bag he was carrying.
“Upon the information, the DPO of Isara, Yusuf Taiwo, led policemen to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested,” Oyeyemi said.
The Command spokesman added that after searching the bag Emmanuel was carrying, it was discovered that a dead baby was wrapped inside it.
“On interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was coming from Offa in Kwara State heading to Lagos where he intended to bury the baby.”
The police suspecting he may have killed the baby for ritual purpose consequently took the suspect to the Isara Division for further interrogation.
Emmanuel will be transferred to the homicide section of the Ogun State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation following the instruction of Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.
