Kazeem Adesola and Ibrahim Ajao, two students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), are currently in critical condition at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTETH) in Osogbo, after they were allegedly shot by some policemen from the headquarters of Zone 11 Police Command.
According to reports, the two students were playing football around Oke-Baale in Osogbo when the policemen came in mufti stormed the pitch and accused some students of engaging in Yahoo-Yahoo (Internet fraud).
An eyewitness who is also a student of the university said that policemen were always in the habit of harassing the university students and accusing them of engaging in Yahoo-Yahoo.
The last attempt led to a resistance by the students which eventually led to the shooting.
“We were playing football when they came. They always come like that to arrest students here. They would say that we are involved in Yahoo-Yahoo and they would seize our laptops and phones”, the student said
“When the policemen started shooting, we ran away but the bullet hit two of us and they were rushed to hospital. A bullet hit one near his stomach and another bullet hit the second one in his mouth”. He added
Confirming the incident, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, the Osun State Commissioner of Police said that the policemen had been arrested and detained, noting that they would face the full wrath of the law.
