Suspected operatives of the Nigeria Police on Friday around 2:15pm stormed the Police Hospital where Senator Dino Melaye was recuperating in Garki, Abuja, and whisked away the lawmaker in a commando style.
The men wore masks to apparently hide their identities.
Report has it that the masked operatives planned to take the lawmaker to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, for interrogation over the alleged attempt to murder Sgt. Danjuma Aliyu, a policeman who was allegedly shot by his thugs while on duty.
It was however alleged that the police, following intervention, moved the senator to the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Senator Melaye had claimed earlier that he was not fit enough to traveled to Lokoja, Kogi State, where his case was being investigated by the State Police Command.
The spokesman of the Nigeria Police, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement in Abuja on Friday said that the Police obtained a warrant from a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 to keep Melaye in its custody for 14 days to enable the police investigate him for criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide.
The police spokesman further noted that Melaye was moved from the Police Hospital to a DSS medical facility in Abuja.
“The Police medical team at the police hospital certified that Melaye is well and healthy to stand trial after treating him.
“However, due to complaints from Senator Melaye that he is not well, the Police Investigation Team has taken him this afternoon (Friday) to another government hospital, DSS Medical Facility in Abuja for further medical attention.
