The Presidency has confirmed the release of 82 Chibok Schoolgirls that were abducted by the Boko Haram Islamist group in 2014.
According to President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Shehu Garba, the girls were exchanged for some Boko Haram suspects held by the Nigerian Government.
The girls who were released on Saturday will arrive Abuja the nation’s capital on Sunday and they will be received by the president.
“President Muhammadu Buhari expresses his deep gratitude to all who played a part in ensuring the success of this operation, as follows: Security agencies, the military, the Government of Switzerland, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and local and international NGOs,” Mr. Shehu said.
The terrorist group sometime in October 2016 released 21 of the over 200 abducted girls.
This second release brings the number of the girls freed to over 104 including two (2) of the girls who were found separately.
