An unidentified suspect who took overdose of tramadol and slept off during kidnapping operation over 10 days ago has died in police custody.
The suspect was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command, after he slept off at the premises of his victim he and his gang members had gone to kidnap.
The victim who is the owner of a pharmaceutical store where they had gone to kidnap him quickly raised an alarm and escaped through the back door of his store.
The 2 other gang members ran away, leaving him behind.
According to the police, the deceased had tried to escape on a motorcycle of a customer at the pharmacy, but however stumbled while trying to ride it.
He eventually slept off when the police came and apprehended him.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, the suspect did not wake up since his arrest until he died on Monday night.
“I can confirm to you that the suspect is dead. He died last night (Monday). We believe that his death is as a result of the tramadol he had taken before he went for the failed operation.
“We took him to a hospital, where he was given about 30 drips. A medical report indicated that the tramadol he took had damaged his system.
“We are still investigating the matter; our men are on the trail of the fleeing members of his gang.”
