Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and the current National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as Nigeria’s greatest election rigger.
Tinubu stated this during the APC presidential campaign rally in Lagos.
According to Tinubu, Obasanjo conducted Nigeria’s most flawed elections, which he alleged prompted late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to even admit that he was rigged into power.
“When he was asked, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua admitted that the election which brought him into office was rigged,” Tinubu alleged.
Tinubu was Lagos State Governor from 1999 to 2007 the same period Obasanjo was Nigerian president.
In 2014 during the buildup of the 2015 general election, Tinubu had no issues with Obasanjo whom he (Tinubu) and his fellow APC founders had relied on for support to emerge into power. Now that the former president has publicly condemned the APC administration and vehemently rejected the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari, the former Lagos State Governor apparently sees no need of keeping him as a friend, since his support was no longer available.
Obasanjo has since declared his support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku was Nigeria’s vice president during the administration of Obasanjo. He served as Obasanjo’s deputy from 1999 to 2007.
