Mr. Ayodele Fayose, the Governor of Ekiti State, while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Lagos, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office if he truly loves Nigeria.
According to Fayose, Mr. President’s ill health has not allowed him effectively do his job as a president.
The governor in his statement which was issued by his aide, Lere Olayinka, noted that Buhari has a moral obligation to save Nigeria from needless stagnation due to his health problem.
He added that fighting corruption is not just limited to discovering huge cash but also being morally upright.
Regarding the economy, Fayose alleges that it has gone from bad to worse, noting that the middle class has been wiped out.
“There is no middle class any more. Economic indicators are not cherry at last. They borrow money on daily basis and committing funds that ought to accrue to all tiers of government to servicing the loans,” he noted.
He also stated that the All Progressive Congress (APC) led Federal Government has failed to deliver on its promises.
“So far, the APC-led Federal Government has been a government of misadventure and Nigerians are worse for it. They say they are fighting corruption but are shielding corrupt elements within their fold,” he said.
“Members of the opposition defect to the APC for protection. Fighting corruption is more than discovering huge sums of money all over the place, with nobody being traced to be the owners, moral corruption too is bad.
“He can do us the great help by resigning. Not resigning bothers on his integrity. His absence allows others to suppress and oppress others and that means he is allowing others to suppress their fellow human beings.
“There are many governments in one and they are clueless. We need an active president going by our numerous challenges. How long will Nigerians wait for an incapacitated president?
“We cannot wait again for somebody to hold us to ransom. I don’t have any bad blood against Buhari Osinbajo has no powers without the president. He owes us the duty to tell us the state of his health.”
The Presidency in its reply to Fayose’s statement noted that the governor was portraying his state (Ekiti State) in bad light.
According to Babafemi Ojudu, a former senator from Ekiti State who is the Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Fayose’s comments was disrespectful considering the fact that President Buhari is old enough to be his father.
He expressed shock that Fayose could call for Buhari’s resignation at a time when all Nigerians are praying for his recovery.
“He (Fayose) has been quarrelling with everybody. Even in Ekiti, he is demolishing filling stations belonging to the opposition,” Mr. Ojudu, stated.
“He has always been insulting the president and disparaging a man old enough to be his father.
“He is portraying Ekiti in a bad light. We are not like that. Is he the only governor, why is it that he is the only one making so much noise?”
“Right now, fuel is not being sold in Ekiti because he is busy demolishing filling stations under one guise of the other,” he continued.
“People are buying fuel from neighbouring states. People are suffering, they are tired of his ways.
“Go and tell him to concentrate on governance and to stop insulting the president.”
